There are many reasons a person may choose to seek therapy. Some people come because they feel they are facing a crisis, some because they feel stuck, or something known or unknown is upsetting them. Perhaps there is a sense of unease which lacks words, or a pattern of behaviour keeps repeating itself. Above all, therapy is a collaborative process in which we explore feelings, behaviours and repeated patterns of thinking to help identify the underlying causes of distress. Looking at past experiences can be vital in therapy, as it is these past experiences that set the pattern for how we behave and feel as an adult. I provide support, objectivity, without personal agenda, and encourage self-reflection and aim to facilitate change, acceptance and a new perspective.
In the process of counselling you can discover what holds you back, enabling you to change old patterns and find new ways of approaching and overcoming your difficulties. This leads to better solutions, it enables you to be better grounded and take more control over your life, improving your confidence and self-esteem. Some of the issues we can work on in counselling include low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, fear, addictions, bullying, anger, self harm, panic attacks, mid-life crisis, ageing, career issues, loss and grief, amongst others. I offer both short term counselling (6-12 weeks) and open-ended.
Couples & Relationship Therapy
Relationship counselling concentrates on here and now issues being experienced in the couple’s daily lives rather than exploring psychological issues in depth. Therapy allows a third person to hear your struggles and enable you both, as individuals, to be heard and actively listen to one another.
We work together to reveal the underlying relationship dynamic and experiment with new and more productive ways of relating to each other. Seeking counselling may be a way to strengthen your relationship or to find a way to part amicably Some of the issues I have worked with include the trauma of a break-up, separation, divorce, infidelity or other breaches of trust, losing a child or experiencing a miscarriage, power struggles, communication problems and confusing relationships.
I offer a free 45 minute assessment for us to decide if therapy is the right course of action for you and your partner and if working with me would be beneficial.
I work with actors, writers, dancers, singers, directors and musicians helping them with a number of issues which include stage fright, lack of confidence, writer’s block, performance anxieties, injury, issues around ageing and career change.
Of course, I would be more than happy to work with you on any issue, it certainly does not need to be work related.
My private rooms are in Hale near Altrincham and Deansgate in Manchester City Centre. However, many performers are working abroad or on tour and I therefore offer sessions via Skype. I also have a limited number of sliding scale reduced fee consultations which I can offer.
